Renovation of the Main Parish Church

Big infrastructure projects

One of the most impressive buildings in Gubin are, undoubtedly, the ruins. The first reference about the church dates back to 1294. The late Gothic temple gained its final external shape in the years 1508 -1557, whereas the interior of the church was completed in 1594. At the end of of World war II the church was seriously damaged as a result of fire and war.

In the seventies of the 20th century the church, which is 60 m heigh and 30 m long, was secured in a form of permanent ruins.

Furthermore, it serves as an anti statue of war and destruction. Presently, the foundation established on the Polish side as well as a German association for renovation of the former Main Parish Church in Guben to serve as a Polish-German meeting centre, are trying to get support in strengthening cross-cultural contacts. The first step, within the financial limits, was to secure the building substance and the first renovation works started. The works started in 2006 are bringing the first effects. The church tower has regained its tented roof and at the same time its original image. The tower has be refurbished and in summer offers to visitors, who decide to attempt to climb up the tower, unforgettable views of Guben and Gubin. The renovation all the time follows one idea - the ecumenical centre of the Euro-Town is to be built here.
